Selena Gomez’s show “13 Reasons Why” would be premiering on Netflix on March. 31. Based on the emotional struggle of a teenage girl, it rings a strong chord with the songstress and as the premiere draws near, Gomez talks about the show and why it is close to her heart.
Selena Gomez has said that her Netflix show “13 Reasons Why” has been a passion project for her ever since she was a teen, CNN reported. This is because the theme of the show, which is about a teenage girl struggling emotionally, hits very close to home for the songstress. While speaking at a Netflix panel on Wednesday, she said that she was actually going through a really difficult time when “13 Reasons Why” started production.
According to the 24-year-old, when she was in rehab for 90 days, she met tons of kids over there and they are talking about these very kids in the show. Selena Gomez revealed that she also had to deal with lot of the issues the characters are experiencing in “13 Reasons Why” but it was on a different scale.
Notably, Selena Gomez went to rehab in August 2016 as she was dealing with anxiety, panic attacks and depression. She had disclosed that she was getting into rehab to deal with her battle with Lupus. However, her feud and breakup with Justin Bieber were also said to be the reasons that had taken a toll on her mental health.
Selena Gomez further said that “13 Reasons Why” hits a very important part of her being and she thinks kids need to see it. She also admitted that it is hard but she definitely relates to everything that was going on. She was there for the last episode and it was a mess, just seeing it all come to life.
It is worth mentioning here that the Selena Gomez starrer “13 Reasons Why” is based on a young-adult novel by Jay Asher and tells the story of a teenage girl who left behind 13 cassettes explaining the reasons that led her to commit suicide.
