The atmospheric river is about to blast California with heavy snow this week and it could reach up to 15 feet. This is due to a shift in the weather and up to two feet of rain water could be expected on the high elevations.

There could be more that 10 feet of snow along the Nevada and Sierra peaks, reports state that rain and snow can be heavy especially in the northern part of Sierra Mountains. The winds approaching from the west is said to flow over the high terrain as per the Washington Post.

The National Weather Service has announced warnings to many parts of the state including Mono County, Lake Tahoe area and the stretch from Yosemite to Kings Canyon. There have also sent out a warning of flood and rain to the lower elevated areas.

It turns out that the region had been experiencing high levels of snow this year as it is already several inches above the ground. Due to this change in the weather California could break the state’s years-long drought as stated on Time.   

The National Weather Service further said that precipitation could be up to two feet in water and this will lead to frozen water in high elevations producing multiple feet of snow.

The process takes place when the air gets warmer and initially the snow levels will start low, as per the weather reports Kingvale had already experienced three feet of snow and they continue to receive snowfall. 

Some areas have already experienced nearly five feet on Thursday and it will gradually increase over the night. Traveling through this snowfall would not be advisable and it is good to postpone travel plans for a few days depending on the condition. It is better to take precautions for the upcoming snowfall in California this week as it is expected to rise to 15 feet.
